“The development of science and technology is key to the sustainable growth of the Murmansk Region and Russia’s technological sovereignty in the Arctic. Our partnership with Skoltech and the Murmansk Arctic University connects cutting-edge research and education with industrial needs, enabling us to start creating and implementing advanced technological solutions immediately,” Murmansk Region Governor Andrey Chibis said.
The partners will collaborate to develop a highly skilled workforce, conduct research and development, and introduce innovations in key sectors of the Arctic economy. Particular emphasis will be placed on artificial intelligence, new materials, advanced engineering, photonics, next-generation telecommunications, biomedicine, and energy efficiency. The agreement allows MAU students to participate in Skoltech’s educational and research programs. It also promotes academic mobility, the adoption of the best educational practices, and the launch of technology entrepreneurship programs.
“This partnership opens up new opportunities for the Murmansk Arctic University to enhance its educational programs, scientific research, and technological entrepreneurship. By integrating Skoltech’s innovative practices, we can train top-notch engineers and researchers to address challenges in Arctic development,” MAU Vice Rector for Strategic Development Ekaterina Kalachikova noted.
The partners intend to launch joint research projects with industrial companies in the Murmansk region, develop engineering and management competencies, and build a modern scientific and educational infrastructure in the region. This partnership is an important step towards establishing a leading Arctic research and technology center at MAU, which will contribute to the closer integration between science, education, and industry.
“Skoltech has been active in developing collaborations with Russian regions that have strong scientific traditions and significant industrial potential. The Murmansk Region is strategically important for developing Arctic technologies, energy sources, new materials, and engineering solutions. I am confident that joint projects with MAU and regional companies will generate breakthroughs in industry and produce world-class professionals,” Skoltech Interim President Alexander Safonov emphasized.
