Alexander Safonov has been appointed Interim President of Skoltech. The decision was made by the General Meeting of the Institute’s Founders.

Alexander Safonov graduated with honors from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and earned a PhD in Technical Sciences, having defended his dissertation on telecommunication networks and systems.

From 2006 to 2016, he served at the Institute for Information Transmission Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IITP RAS), ultimately holding the position of Deputy Director for Research and Youth Engagement. In 2016, he joined Skoltech, where he served as Senior Vice President for Development through 2026.

In 2025, he was awarded the Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland,” II degree.
